Advising

Working with the graduate advisers in the affiliated PhD programs, the WRaCS graduate adviser oversees students’ academic progress towards fulfilling the DE requirements.  Students should meet with the WRaCS adviser regularly to consult about their selection of courses.

The WRaCS graduate adviser helps students develop dissertation topics that substantially examine an issue related to the designated emphasis.  The WRaCS adviser also confirms for Graduate Studies and the student’s PhD program that all DE requirements have been met prior to graduation.

Mentoring and the Writing Studies Research Group

Graduate students in the WRaCS DE have access to graduate student mentors.  During most weeks of the quarter, a study group, the WRaCS DE Research Group, meets to discuss works-in-progress, listen to talks by faculty, or share responses to selected readings. The research group also organizes at least one social get-together for DE members each quarter
